Ponderosa Girls Soccer
Recently, I’ve jumped into photographing local high school sports teams. I had my first game on a Thursday night when the warmth of spring has yet to take hold. Throughout my senior year of high school, I took photos and video for my alma mater’s hockey team and I loved every second of it. There’s just something special about capturing high intensity moments whether that’s a player scoring a goal, beating the opponent to the ball, or aggressive defending.
I used to play lacrosse and every time I got on the field, I felt powerful and strong. There’s just something about my lungs and muscles screaming for oxygen that makes me feel alive. Nothing beats the rush of scoring either. Sitting on the sidelines with a camera in my hand felt like a strange combination of nostalgia and unfamiliar. The smell of the turf, the buzzing glow of the fluorescent lights, girls shouting to their teammates sucked me back into my freshman and sophomore years. It felt like home. But having a camera in my hand was new.
Despite only sitting on the sidelines, I still felt the rush as if I myself were a player. The intensity bleeds off the field when you sit that close, when you’re the one telling the story of the game.
It was such a blast capturing their camaraderie and teamwork, their power and strength, their determination. One thing is for sure, the Ponderosa Girls Soccer team are beasts.
